Install to USB out of space
Posted by: rondi - 05-30-2019, 03:11 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (22)

Is there any way I can get a smaller UPGRADE,. or somehow increase the size of a file to keep it from running out of space when doing the UPGRADE? I can download 4.4 and install it on a SanDisk 16 or 32gb stick--it is the UPGRADE that causes me me problems. I have tried for 2 weeks to UPGRADE 4.4 and it gets part way thru the get sequence---- and gets an error "out of space or disk full error. I just formatted and reinstalled using rufus on a fat32 32gb USB stick, per the instructions and GParted shows the partition size of 29.81gb and 1.33gb used!---I tried a Menu/Install Upgrades and it failed--I got a number of "File has unexpected size" and then of course Hash errors--I've never seen those before--so I then used sudo apt autoremove and it reported "0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 687 no upgraded",. I then did sudo apt upgrade, and it reported " the following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required: libcomer2:i386 libjavascriptcoegtk-1.0-0 + 4 other ones, Use sudo apt autoremove to remove them--- It continued with the upgrade until at line 756 when it got an error--unable to make backup link ----No space left on device and following that it says--dpkg-deb:error:paste subprocess was killed by signal (Broken Pipe).

Maybe the problem is my W7 laptop--but I doubt it because I use the same usb port for other things and it has no problem---same with the SanDisk usb sticks.

If I could install smaller upgrades and have them just do portions of the whole upgrade perhaps I could get an install. Is there a way I delete portions of the Install AFTER the files it expects to download are loaded, but before the download (ie get) starts to execute. Then I could delete stuff I don't want or need---if it obvious of course.

It also appears autoremove does not delete enough space. Which directories contain the downloaded, uninstalled files that I can delete and restore some free space, on what appears to be a very small limited filespace?

Thanks for any help, Ron

edited to clarify--it is the UPGRADE that fails, not the initial install onto a USB stick.

Middle mouse button paste text, can I disable?
Posted by: Sprintrdriver - 05-26-2019, 12:42 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (2)

Whenever the mouse pointer hovers over a text field in a web browser or any local installed program (text editor) - when I hit the middle mouse button, it does a text paste from clipboard.

Can this behaviour be disabled somehow?

I have looking through Mouse and Touchpad settings, but cannot find any relevant options for this.

Thanks in advance

  Encrypt home folder

I am used to other distros with installation option "encrypt home folder" on installation. Is this the same or different from "Encrypt the new Linux installation for security" with LL?

Can't upgrade to Linux Lite 4.4
Posted by: PCTECH - 05-23-2019, 10:19 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (13)

Hello

I'm currently running LL 4.2 on my Dell Latitude E6500. I have attempted to upgrade to LL 4.4 using the Lite Upgrade tool. I get an error that reports that the system cannot connect to the "master Linux Lite repository", upgrade has been canceled. Regular system updates download & install correctly and I'm not having any internet connectivity problems either. I tried changing LL repositories  without any effect. I was able to upgrade this system from LL 4.0 to 4.2 using the Lite upgrade tool.
Any suggestions welcomed.

Thanks
Mark Smile

Computer in bios doesn't recognize Linux-lite on usb or sd card
Posted by: Karen R. Atkisson - 05-23-2019, 06:01 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (4)

Hi, guys,
I have a Chromebook that I redid the firmware and put Lubuntu on it, so no more Chromebook OS. I tried to put my favorite linux (Linux Lite) on it, but the Chromebook bios won't recognize Linux Lite on the usb or sd card, but it does recognize Lubuntu on the usb or sd card. Lubuntu is on my chromebook now.  I'm sort of happy with Lubuntu, but it has it's limitations that I've had to work around and fix, where you guys have everything all perfect, all ready, and easy to use. Why is my Chromebook not recognizing Linux Lite iso on usb, but recognizes Lubuntu? Like I said earlier, I used the same usb and sd card for Linux lite as I did for Lubuntu. I downloaded the two the same way off the internet. My chromebook bios just does not recognize the Linux Lite installation. I've tried to find it in the bios different ways, but no. What could be the problem? I love Linux Lite.

UPDATE - I went to Linux Lite site and downloaded uefi iso. It worked for my particular case.  Smile
