I like to run the -applicable- Lite Tweaks options from time to time. I try not to mess much with the "Kernel Installer" section, though, but I delete whatever older versions are left there.  Today I ventured into the "Kernel installer" area and noticed there are quite a few of them (newer) available. Thus my question, do you guys recommend go for the newer kernels? ...Yes? ...No? ...and Why? I tried a quick search on the forums but those existing questions were asking whether to delete older kernels or not.

I just bought a network card ASUS PCE-AC68 but the DVD is only for windows. I have entered the ASUS page and the selectable
operating systems are all windows. But there has to be some way that Linux Lite detects me the card from some option.
From the option install drivers does not leave me. Please, if someone can help me, i would be very grateful.

I want my computer with 512mb of ram to be a bit unstable but still not impossible to use. Should I install LL 2.8, LL3,8 and lubuntu 14.04 to multiboot? I don't need it, so I want to use for testing linux OS's memory usage for fun.

Start by booting to live desktop with live USB or DVD:



Connect another empty USB drive to your computer this drive will be erased and linux lite installed to this (now) empty drive.

Double click the install icon:



Select correct language and keyboard layout:





You can connect to wifi network now if you want but this is not needed for installing the OS:



Do NOT install any proprietary drivers they often break compability between multiple computers:



Select "Something else" for manually installing to USB and not to the internal hard drive:



Now the installer shows your internal hard disk drive partitions. Do NOT make any changes to them.

Select "Device for boot loader installation:"



Select your own USB drive:





Select your own USB drive from the upper list for me it's sdc:



Remove the fat32 partition from the targer USB drive, but make 100% sure it's your stick partition my partition is 15,6gb in size and my USB drive is 16gb so it must be the correct partition Remove it with the minus icon after selecting it from the list (sdc1):



Select the free space you just made and select the plus button to create your system partition:



Choose the size to your system partition it must be at least 9GB but I recommend to make it at least 12GB otherwise you instantly run out of space and the mount point must be "/":



Select the free space again under sdc or whatever it is on your computer:



Add a "swap area" it needs about 2GB but if you want to use hibernation make it bigger than your RAM and then you must install to at least 32GB USB drive:



I also made 1550MB partition to fill the unused space with windows compatible fat32 partition and it shouldn't have any mount points:



My final partitioning looks like this:



That is OK:



Continue when it asks it:



Select your time zone:



Make user:



Wait, it say when it's done:




Note: If your swap area is bigger than biggest RAM in your computers you can use hibernation even when your stick is not connected to your computer(s).
Note2: Suspend works too, but you must keep the USB drive connected to the computer.

If I download a zip (or rar) file and then double click it, the archive manager opens it and extracts it. Then it opens a window that says something like "Show the files" which I either have to accept or cancel. If I click okay, then I get this: "Linux Lite will now fetch the updates list. Click Cancel to exit now or Continue to proceed." If I click Continue, this is what happens: The Update Manager opens and it tries to update my software. So I either update my OS or I have to just close the Archive Manager. Why doesn't it do what it says it will, ie, open the folder with the unzipped files in it?

Hello all,

My husband is using linuxlite 2.2 and I know it needs to be upgraded. Is it OK to upgrade to 3? I usually prefer to do fresh installs but that would be quite inconvenient right now. What is the best way to upgrade? I have not done a major upgrade for years. Any suggestions and how to are welcome.

I'm using an old Asus laptop with 3 GB RAM and 250GB hard disc and LL 3.8 installed. Been running for months without any real issue but hit a snag today.

I closed down properly last night but on booting up this morning, it opens up (immediately after the Asus logo) to BIOS. I can't see anything there which indicates a fault but each time I try to exit - whether by f10 or ESC - the laptop closes down. On booting up I'm instantly back to the BIOS screen. Just can't seem to get out of it. Any ideas/advice would be much appreciated.

Something new has happened. I clicked on the time to pull up the calendar and after finding what I needed it will not go away. There does not see to be an obvious way to get it off the home page pop-up.
What am I doing wrong?
It used to go away after a 2nd click.

I just followed this guide (http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2014...-usb-drive/) but since following this guide, I repartitioned this drive because I now need this USB for something else. But now when I try to boot, my computer boots into the GRUB bootloader and not windows. How can I remove the bootloader and in case I decide to use Ubuntu again, how can I set windows boot manager to boot ahead of the GRUB bootloader?
