Hello all

I am trying to revive an old Dell Dimension 9200 desktop running Windows XP and install Linux Lite.

Specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4
2 gb RAM
256 ATI Radeon X1300 graphics card
2 320gb SATA drives
BIOS revision 2.5.3

After startup, F12 gets me to the USB boot option, after which I can get to Linux Lite Welcome screen. This is where things go awry.

Start Linux Lite:
blank screen with cursor flashing in upper left corner

Start Linux Lite in safe mode:
runs to "[1.668506] e1000e 0000:00:19.0 Interrupt Throttling Rate (ints/sec) set to dynamic conservative mode"
ends at flashing cursor

Install Linux Lite now:
nothing; screen reverts to "No VGA cable"

Any suggestions?

I'm trying to create a cron job for clamav to do a scan of the home directory once a week. I made this script in /etc/cron.weekly/ :

I've tried to add my apps over on the left with the standard apps, as I can do in nearly every other distro I've used. They add to the far right, next to the clock. I can't move them. How do I fix this?  I tried to attach a screenshot, but it's 1.7 Mb and the system has a 500 kb limit.  This is on a Lenovo T430 laptop running Linux Lite 4.4.

just upgraded my system like I do every week. Suddenly, NONE of my Firefox addons, extensions, plugins, whatever, work. So NoScript, Privacy Badger, none of my ad blockers, not even the visual themes I had work. When I try to reinstall any of them I get an error message that says "Download failed. Please check your connection." which is silly - the connection is fine; I mean, I'm posting this. 

Has anybody else had issues with this? Firefox itself did not appear to upgrade during the upgrade process, but something is really wrong here. Current version is 66.

Sure hope they do something about this soon!

EDIT 2: looks like it wasn't the system upgrade that did it, just Firefox itself messing up. Apparently this thing had a time switch that flipped and bingo; man, there are a LOT of unhappy people! https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=19823465

for some Firefox users their installed extensions are being blocked and shown as not authorized etc. This is a glitch in the certification system and Mozilla say they know the problem and will restore everything asap.

Hello. I'm new to linux and I've installed Linux Lite using usb stick. It installed perfectly without any error. However, whenever I boot up my laptop, after the loading animation the screen goes black and then another black screen with a underscore (or cursor idk) appears. The keyboard completely freezes. Nothing happens if I press windows key or ctrl+alt+f1 even the capslock led doesn't light up. I have tried removing 'quiet' word before splash from the grub file. This all happens before login screen. Please help.

I want to install LL on a late model Mac Mini (I5 core processor) I plan to replace Mac OS. not dual boot. If I select use entire disk and let the installer do it's thing...will this work? What about the UEFI partition? Will it create one? Or do I have to manually partition the drive? ...keeping the Mac OS created UEFI partition? or creating one myself with Gparted?

Hi;My (older) laptop works almost perfectly fine with LL 4.4. After installing LL 4.4 it detected all available wireless networks and connects fine to the two of them that are from my router.
The machine has been turned on and off several times. I take it to a friend's house and it will not connect to any other wireless networks. Sometimes they show up in the list of networks but mostly they are all greyed out! Sometimes they don't show up at all!
Coming from Windows I thought I'd just un-install and re-install Networking altogether because that has cured many, many similar networking problems on Windows in the past.
I could not find anything to achieve a similar effect in LL (or Ubuntu for that matter).  Any suggestions anybody? TIA
Btw. the machine is Gateway NV76R24u
