I constantly install updates from the main menu but as this does not solve the issue can anyone help me get this operational once more please

sudo dpkg --configure -a not resolving blocking of synaptic & updating
Posted by: m654321 - 10-21-2016, 10:46 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (22)

Synaptic Package Manager wouldn't open fully in LL3.0 today, but came up with message to run this command: sudo dpkg --configure -a.
I assume this happened because a process was abruptly terminated in a previous session, before it had reached completion.
I got the following output when I ran the command mentioned, but it seems to hang indefinitely (more than an hour) on the last line of code...

Code:
mike@mike-G750JS:~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
[sudo] password for mike:
Setting up linux-image-4.4.0-42-generic (4.4.0-42.62) ...

As always, any help is much appreciated.

If you're running the 3.x series of Linux Lite, you may be able to patch your kernel, on up to 3 PCs, without rebooting, using the procedure at this link.

UEFI Build requests - suggested help
Posted by: Coastie - 10-18-2016, 04:40 AM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (23)

I keep seeing posts about UEFI build request. Jerry has said no. So here is a suggestion that might help if like me you want to get rid of Windows completely like I did when I bought a new computer.

I found in the Help Manual a link to dual booting with Windows http://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/start.html#uefi . Here is a simpler video on how to change from UEFI to Legacy Boot.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmMLoYmvNyg
If this or a similar video could be placed on the download page http://www.linuxliteos.com/download.html before or after the video on how to install Linux Lite 3.0, it might help.  Smile

I just want to know if I am the only one that wants it. (Obviously not, but you get what I mean)

  UEFI Build?
Posted by: ohjrson - 10-18-2016, 01:50 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (5)

OK I know from the other post in the testing of the UEFI build that it was determined that it would sort of not be pursued. That is unfortunate. Especially for all the Windows 10 users that hate Windows 10. (Me Included) I am in the sense forced to use Windows 10 simply because I 1.) I can't wrap my head around all the stuff you have to do to actually load LL3 into a UEFI booting win 10 computer. 2.) I really am too hesitant on performing all that has to be done to re-write the boot log or whatever to get LL3 to boot up properly in a dual boot system with Win 10. 3). It is the most commonly used OS for new computers. 4.) IMHO This is kind of contrary to the goal of LL is it not? I was under the impression LL is to replace windows and be as simple to use as windows. (whether it was designed for Win XP replacement or not.) Keeping that in mind I am going to start a poll and see how many people in the forum would like to see the UEFI build attained. I for one would like to see it as my New computer is too slow with Win 10 and I know that with LL3 it would be so much faster.

So that being said... PLEASE RECONSIDER!!!

xfce4-screenshooter doesn't appear to be copying to clipboard
Posted by: torreydale - 10-18-2016, 12:11 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (3)

I used to be able to screenshoot and save the capture to the clipboard.  Then I could go to imgur.com and paste the capture.  I thought the issue was with imgur, but I just tried to paste a capture from the clipboard to LibreOffice Draw, and I got the same result as when I tried to paste to imgur...nothing.  As a workaround, I save the capture as a *.png file and then upload to imgur.  But it would be nice if the Screenshot program was again working as expected.

Any ideas?

  Dell inspiron 1501 AMD 64X
Posted by: bayoubooger - 10-17-2016, 03:01 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (3)

Need recommendations and thoughts on this machine.

After reading forums here and yon, I installed 32 bit Linux Lite 3.0. After getting through all the trials of getting the Broadcom wireless working, the machine runs smoothly. I installed 32 because mention was made that if you're only running 2GB memory, 32 works best. Supposedly this is max for the machine, though I have read in some forums that it will handle 4GB. I have tried 64 and it runs as fast as the 32, it seems? Question is, with the lack of support on so many things nowadays in 32. Should I go ahead and update to 64 and be done with it? Thanks in advance for comments and feed back...

  Thunar 1.6.10 crashes
Posted by: Shady - 10-17-2016, 04:19 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (9)

Not sure if i'm posting this in the right section but ever since I installed LL 3.0, my home folder/thunar have been closing/crashes randomly often when I rename a file or move a file into a different folder.

I decided to google search the problem and apparently it's a common bug with thunar 1.6.10 that many people had problems with. There's a patch out for it but i have yet installed it and tried it out yet.

I don't know if you know about it Jerry or if you fixed it in LL 3.2 beta.
