First of all I don't know what I'm doing with Linux. :-[
I did look to see when I installed Lite on this computer no found in System information.
Read can see in oldest file in /boot don't know if that USA date style or UK 3rd month or 5th Month 2014 so it's been sometime with not sound since the start of last year.
I tried adding install updates drivers & tab additional drivers - But there No additional drivers available.
Also did create system report and got info below about sound card, looked here on forms did a search look.
From system info show I using Linux 3.13.0
Quote:===========================================================
Sound Information
===========================================================
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: ICH5 [Intel ICH5], device 0: Intel ICH [Intel ICH5]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: ICH5 [Intel ICH5], device 4: Intel ICH - IEC958 [Intel ICH5 - IEC958]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
So is there no drivers to get sound sorting on this computer
to add there no sound from website MP3 from hardrive or CD I do have VLC as player have also looked at sound setting clicked about not change. Looked here to file:///usr/share/doc/litemanual/index.html
Thanks

[SOLVED] Binding" questions

Some have you may have seen my thread about creating a designated partition for data (documents, music, video, pictures, downloads) to be shared by three operating systems (auto-mount question). I was trying to use this procedure:
http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/1609
(which I just noticed recently was written by our very own gold-finger some time ago). At any rate with some help, I got through the mounting process and now have a partition that is auto mounted at start-up with fstab additions (at least in LL so far).
gold-finger's tutorial references another thread for binding the directories in my new partition to those in my home directories. However, now that I am mid-project I am wondering if it will accomplish what I intended (or not) and had a few questions. I have tried to research this on-line with not a lot of luck as any search with "binding" seems to yield results concerning servers and networking (or sewing ).
1) If I bind a home folder to a folder in the new partition folder - and I save a document (for example) is it physically saved only on the new partition (in Document folder), or on the new partition and in the home folder ("Documents" in home in this example)?
As I understood it (or thought I did) initially, it would be saved on the new partition only, but with the binding, it would appear in my home folder "documents" as if it were actually there, but I saw something that made me question that and the project would be less helpful if that is the case.
2) So far, I am able to bind my LL folders to the folders in the new partition but I am clueless about how I might do this in my Windows 7 O/S. Or maybe this is unnecessary and I can/should just navigate documents/downloads/etc. to be saved in the new (ntfs) partition?
Any clarification appreciated! Thanks folks!

When I'm installing daily updates through the lxterminal, it is still titled "Linux Lite 2.0 Updates" even though I'm running the 2.2 version. No biggie but is this happening to any other users??

Hi group,
I am completely baffled by this turn of events. I had LL 2.2 installed on an older Dell Inspiron B130 and everything was working fine for months. This morning I wanted to test a mini usb wifi dongle to check if the 5370 Ralink was now supported. It worked immediately without any issues and I was excited to find that out.
However, upon removing the dongle...my onboard wifi was no longer available AT ALL. I tried a number of terminal commands to locate the device, drivers, etc....nothing worked. So finally, I decided it would be faster to simply re-install LL 2.2 on the machine. Booting from the USB stick....I still did not have the onboard wifi anymore???
I then deleted the hard drive partition and tried again with the USB stick boot.....still no wifi. Next, I loaded Puppy Linux....just to see if ANYTHING would see it......Puppy picked up the wifi just fine and I browsed the internet with no issues. So....the wifi card IS working on the computer......
Back to LL 2.2....I rebooted again and LL 2.2 still does not see the onboard Broadcom 43XX wifi card that was working prior to the 5370 trial. Even with a brand new fresh load of LL.......
Any ideas?
Ken

New Install LL 2.2 > NO WiFi with "rtl8723be" Chipset

Hi,
A new install of LL 2.2, all appeared to be O.K, System info at the end.
I have to admit, I didn't check WiFi with a Live Boot. (naughty boy )
I always do the installs connected via cable.
After install & Updates I found I did not have WiFi. It is based on Realtek "rtl8723be"
Long story short after lot's of Googling, it appears lots of people have issue with this chipset.
I found a solution that appeared to work, but after 2/3 hours lost the WiFi until I did a re-boot.
Then
I found lots of reference to it being fixed in Kernel 3.16.
So I tried kernel 3.16, the WiFi appeared to work, but I then had a video ripping/tearing issue.
I tried 3.17, WiFi O.K but still had a video ripping/tearing issue.
I tried 3.18, NO WiFi, and also had a video ripping/tearing issue.
I have found possibly another option, but don't fully understand "back-ports"??
I found a thread on what, If I understand it, is installing the the latest drivers used in 3.16, but on to 3.13.?
Post 16 in: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2243978
Quote:Please install the kernel headers and build-essential beforehand -
Code: sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic build-essential
Then follow these steps to download and install the backported driver -
1) Download the "backports-3.16.2-1" package from here : http://drvbp1.linux-foundation.org/~...tml/backports/
2) Copy the downloaded archive to your Desktop > Right-Click > Extract here.
3) Open a terminal (Ctrl-Alt-T) and run these commands to build and install the driver -
Code: cd Desktop/backports-3.16.2-1
make defconfig-rtlwifi
make
sudo make install
I would be taking a stab in the dark with this, and it may break my install possibly.? Comments welcome.?
So in summary, In the absence of any other ideas.?
I try the above, fingers crossed, or I'm stuck with LL 2.2 / kernel 3.13 and cable, or the "flaky" option.
Hope this all makes sense.?
Dave

[SOLVED] Puzzled on my new project - auto mount partition

I currently have a small SSD (128Gb) with LL 2.2 on it and which I use for my normal /primary drive/OS.
I have a second convention hard drive (1T) on the machine with Windows 7, Linux Mint Mate and a 500+ Gb partition (ntfs) labeled "Data" that I hoped to store photos/videos, etc. and make them available to all three operating systems. The default boot is LL 2.2 and at the boot menu I can select the others, which works fine.
I was trying to follow this method:
http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/1609
I went through the commands to create mount point, take ownership, create directories, find UUID# and then add the fstab additional entries to auto mount. When I boot into LL however, it stops while booting and says "disk drive for 2DEB175417534C94 is not ready or present enter W to wait S to continue or M to manually recover".
(2DEB175417534C94 is the UUID# for my Data partiton) if I Wait, nothing happens, if I Skip it boots fine and then Data shows up on my Desktop and I can mount it there, it shows as "Removable Volume mounted in "/media/chris/Data". If I open it I also don't see the folders I created, but if i try and recreate them in terminal it says they already exist.
If I look at the partitioning in GParted I see /dev/sdb3 (which contains /dev/sdb7 the Data partition) and /dev/sdb7 show up with a set of keys next to them which would seem to indicate they are locked? Is this the issue with the "disk drive not ready or present" or what am I missing here?
Any thoughts?
Chris
