[SOLVED] NVIDIA GeForce GT 720 Drivers
Posted by: Wirezfree - 12-26-2014, 01:07 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (12)

Hi,

I have shown a friend Linux Lite...
He wants me try it on his PC, Obviously I will try a Live Boot first.

I already know the PC's got a Intel based MOBO,
but with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 720 graphics card.

To avoid any issues,
I thought I would get a Heads Up on any possible issues.?
Will this be a case of using the install drivers option.

A quick Google led me to what appeared a straight forward install:

GeForce GT 720

Install Drivers

Code:
sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nvidia-346 nvidia-settings

Remove Drivers:
Code:
sudo apt-get install ppa-purge && sudo ppa-purge ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
sudo apt-get remove nvidia-346

Thanks... Dave

  Google Earth and missing blocks
Posted by: bugfree - 12-26-2014, 11:23 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (1)

Hi,
Googleearth runs flawlessly when running LL2 from a USB stick as a live CD via Unetbootin.

After physically installing LL2 to a USB stick and booting from it, video display is missing sections (blocks).

It seems GE picks a different video driver once installed on the stick. There does not seem to be an option of installing or changing to a different or updated driver via the Menu.

Has anyone experienced this and is there a fix. Other video related applications, like Youtube, DVD etc all play fine. Only GE has the missing blocks. This is happening on all three computers I have tried LL on.  :'( Thanks.

Whisker Menu updated for Linux Lite
Posted by: Valtam - 12-26-2014, 01:38 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (10)

I've created new builds for our port of the Whisker Menu for Linux Lite.

New features:

- New translations.
- Recently used can now be configured on Behavior tab (minimum of 5 items).
- Edit Profile added to Behavior tab (installs Mugshot, click on the image next to your name at the top of the Menu to configure).

Logout and Login to see new version.

Mugshot:

Mugshot allows you to change your name and picture that appear on the Login screen. This will create a menu entry in Menu, Settings, About Me. This program is a dependency of whiskemenu and therefore cannot be removed without breaking your system. If you don't want it to show on your Menu, then just hide it in Main Menu (Menu, Settings, Main Menu, Settings, About Me - untick)

Do:

Code:
sudo apt-get install whiskermenu

to get the new version of the Menu.

[SOLVED] Accidentally deleted volume control icon on panel - how to renistate?
Posted by: m654321 - 12-25-2014, 08:18 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (3)

I inadvertently deleted the volume control icon on the right hand side of the panel at the bottom of the laptop screen.  How do I get this back, as presently I have no way of changing the volume for the music player in LL2.2.

Many thanks in advance for your help.
Regards
Mike

Will former LL 3.13 continue to receive updates, and, if not, are they necessary for operation of the os?

  [SOLVED] gvfs-fuse not installed
Posted by: pjpreilly - 12-24-2014, 07:44 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (1)

gvfs-fuse is not installed by default & hence linking to a network volume in terminal is not available. I had to install this package to access the mount point. gvfs is installed by default & this package should also.

Leaf texture fills the screen, a Zebra Swallowtail Caterpillar munching through to reveal the Construct, awaiting your command.

Error: "Enable Auto Login has not been applied"
Posted by: Wirezfree - 12-24-2014, 04:08 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (20)

Hi,

A fresh clean new install of LL 2.2, immediately followed by "Install Updates"
Install all went fine, no errors or warnings during the install.
Carried out all my usual set-up actions, like I have done "many/many" times..

I then went to enable "Auto Login"
Menu > System >Login Settings > "Enable Auto Login"

I get the usual:

then I get prompted for my password, which I enter.
Then after a second or so I get:

and Auto Login does not work.

I have seen the message on Auto Login Bug, but I ran the install updates immediately after install
http://tiny.cc/lightdm-link1

There is another Thread about adding a user in lightdm.conf, which is not present on this install.
Also an indication of creating one manually.
http://tiny.cc/lightdm-link2

Any suggestions/pointers welcome.

I'm unable to include formatted url links in this post else I get Server Error messages..!!!!

Thanks... Dave
