  Main Menu: Help icon command
Posted by: Kirkx - 08-01-2014, 09:06 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (4)

I'm re-arranging the Main Menu (Alt+F2 - alacarte) and by mistake deleted all Help icons. I'm not sure if those icons are just links to the Help web page or to a file on the hard drive. If it's a file then I would appreciate if someone could post the command. Thanks.

  Moving a Window on screen
Posted by: Colin23erk - 07-31-2014, 05:34 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (4)

Hi
I am using a Netbook with 1024 x 600 screen

I am trying to Export a Gimp File in JPG

The Export Dialogue Window pops up OK but is not all visible on the screen . I cannot get at any of the buttons or the top of the Window to exit . I want to be able to move the window to a better location

I believe there are Keyboard shortcuts in xfce  but have had no luck getting any to work . Do they need installing or should they work out of the box . what shortcuts do I need to use

  Updating LL
Posted by: arunp - 07-31-2014, 02:31 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (4)

Dear Team,

When i updated the LL through install update, it asks for some of the options as shown in this attachment. What should a user do. Can we not avoid such dialogues and the updater takes care by itself as this will be a hindrance for the new users to0 adopt the LL or there should be a provision to give instructions to user what options to choose while update at the beginning of the update.

Used Linux for years but now loading at the house to setup mock enterprise Lab
Posted by: sumncguy - 07-31-2014, 01:09 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (1)

I currently have Ubuntu loaded on a desktop with modest resources (dont want to spend alot of money).
I do have a memory upgrade on the way ..

Am considering a "liter" version... I have to ask.

What makes Linux lite, well, lite compared to lets say a Ubunto LTS distro ?

Some stuff is missing I would imagine...

  Forum Posting Guidelines
Posted by: Valtam - 07-31-2014, 02:54 AM - Forum: Screenshots - No Replies

By following these posting standards, you will make your posts easier to read by fellow members, whilst ensuring a consistent standard across the Forums.

Thread titles:

Thread titles should be brief but descriptive.
eg. You want to make a thread about installing 'Gimp' on Linux

Thread title would read:
How to install Gimp on Linux

Thread content:

For install commands and code in general, please use the Insert Code button on the posting menu bar or [ code ]sudo apt-get install gimp[ /code ] (without the spaces in the code brackets) to enclose your code.
eg.

Code:
sudo apt-get install gimp

Inserting images:

Upload your images to imgur for free.

Copy the code from the BBCode box in imgur and paste it on a line where you want the picture to appear.

DO NOT attach your screenshots to the Forums, this takes up huge amounts of disk space over time. Please only use the attachment function for reports.

All images are limited to 800 pixels wide by 600 pixels high. Clicking on pictures that are larger than that will make them full size once your post has been made.

Attaching a report

On Linux Lite, do Menu > System > Create System Report.
Then click on Attachments and other options at the bottom of the edit window. Click on the Browse button and select the system report file. Lastly, click on the Post button.

  Unable to login to LL
Posted by: Kirkx - 07-31-2014, 01:51 AM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (8)

My LL has been working flawlessly for the last few weeks and today, out of a blue, I can't login. It seems to be booting ok and the problem is at the login screen. I removed the splash screen long time ago and I boot all my distros from Grub4Dos bypassing Grub2:

Code:
# Grub4Dos file Menu.lst
title Linux Lite
root (hd0,20)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-3.13.0-32-generic root=UUID=4ghka89-5586-3b77-8r6c-49f28g17d4n9 ro
initrd /boot/initrd.img-3.13.0-32-generic

This way I can see how the bootup scripts are executed line by line, and there is no difference between how they run today and before, so the bootup process looks ok. When the login screen comes up (the screen with the user name and password) I enter the password and hit Enter. At this point LL would normally load startup applications but instead the login screen comes up again. It looks like I was entering the wrong password, but the password is correct, I have never touched the user account menu and never changed the password since original installation.

I wish I had a Clonezilla image backup but I keep putting this off, there are so many other things to learn.

My last commands in LL yesterday were as follows:

Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get autoremove
At this point there were no messages about any outstanding updates or files to be removed and I hit:
Code:
sudo shutdown -h now

PS: I post this message after booting to Xubuntu 14.04 (from Grub4Dos, obviously; I don't understand why they made Grub2 so bloody complicated, but that's the topic for another thread).

  Unhappy user on another website
Posted by: Coastie - 07-30-2014, 01:57 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (12)

I watched a distro review on Linux Help Guy then looked at his comments section https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZJGcgeKADhL0uVscQ25Sxg/discussion. Kevin M had complained about LL and the LL forum, for example, "... The Linux Lite OS forum is a not at all helpful - asking a question means they send you a PM telling you to look on Google for answers to any questions you may have. ..." He definitely did not know what he was writing about in this comment and the rest of his post.

I would have responded but do not have a Google account and do not particularly want one. Someone with an account may want to respond to him.

(When Steve Holmes, a.k.a. SneekyLinux, PuppyLinuxWord, started this new channel he was going to do a series on LL 2.0 then changed to Linux Mint and now to MX 14.)

Posted by: elliott - 07-30-2014, 02:54 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (13)

Hi. someone was nice enough to point to to the file i needed to download for USB 2.0 to work, but when i share i fold it allows me to list it but when in VM when i try to access it i'm told i don't have guest additions? i tried installing it in the Linux Lite add software and still after installing i get the same message. does anyone know which package is needed to get folder sharing to work if not the one included inside the linux lite 2.0 add software app? it is VB 4.3.10
