Install Updates: how to keep the terminal open

When you run Install Updates command it opens the terminal, runs the update script and then closes the terminal:
![[Image: 7OnrCh0.png]](http://i.imgur.com/7OnrCh0.png)
How to prevent the terminal from closing? I have modified the command and it seems to be working ok but I would appreciate confirmation that my code is ok:
Original command:
Code: x-terminal-emulator --geometry=95x25 -t "Linux Lite Updates" -e /usr/scripts/updates
Modified command (the terminal remains open):
Code: x-terminal-emulator --geometry=95x25 -t "Linux Lite Updates" -e "bash -c /usr/scripts/updates;bash"
In addition I commented out the last line in the "updates" script itself, I'm not sure if it's really necessary:

Howdy from the Chihuahua Desert. I ride Harleys and run Linux. I am a distro team member on a couple of distros.
AntiX and MacPup. I just received this Dell XP2 Touchscreen Tablet/Netbook from Fedex this evening and felt
like letting you folks know what works on here.
This netbook has no hard drive yet, No power adapter, No pen (wacom type), but I could not pass it up for 50 bucks on ebay.

I am running off of a persistent 8 gig pendrive made with unetbootin. One of those tiny PNY micro pen drives.
Sound, Tap on mousepad, Wireless, Sound, and wait for it , TOUCHSCREEN, all work.
The mouse cursor accepts my finger and acts as left click when I tap the screen like to activate a post button.
I am tickled pink with how well you folks fit this on a cd sized download. Code: linux@linux:~$ df -h

I went with 32 bit because it will be awhile before
I buy a 4 gig ram stick to bump this up to 5 gig of ram. I'll probably spring for a SSD on here also.
Like I said. Just got this netbook tonight. Made the USB. Registered and posted here.
I am GED educated. Own my own Bike Shop. I have some knowledge and can maneuver my way around a linux file
system comfortably. I am a tester on the teams I belong to. I moderate at a couple of forums also.
I am a crude, rude, and tattooed Linux Biker . But the developers I help luv me anyways.
I will help here when time allows. Presently there are other outdoor and distro commitments that take up my time.
But when a distro helps me out. I pay it forward. Nice job on this build folks. Me being a builder myself. I know the work involved.
Anyways, that is is me.
Happy Trails, Rok
PS. The sources list is just huge. :o

Well 14 yrs of linux and I got to say this is the best one yet!!
Ubuntu was always good ,because it has awesome updates, and repositories, but it has become way to heavy, same thing with a lot of others... keeping things LITE! just seems to be the way Linux likes to run.... Don`t you agree?

My Wifi is working to my Router OK --I am connected to write this
I am not getting the Network Manager Icon on my Panel so I cannot see what other Wifi networks are available or turn-off wifi etc
Tried reinstalling the network managers in Synaptic
Did an upgrade
Tried http://www.webupd8.org/2014/04/fix-lubun...nager.html -- directed there from Ubuntu Forum
Quote:To fix the Network Manager not showing up on the panel issue, from the Lubuntu menu select Preferences > Default applications for LXSession, then click on the Autostart tab and under "Manual autostarted applications" type "nm-applet", then click the "+ Add" button on the left:
I used Session & Startup > Application Autostart > Add --in Linux-Lite 2 and Restarted

(Solved) Wifi Strength Display

Hi,
I find that the default network mgr only displays bars and no percentage for indicating the wifi signal strength. The bars are not a very precise. Is there an alternative setting or network mgr that will give me a more accurate display of my available wifi networks strengths?
BTW: I finally made the big switch! LL is now my main OS. I have a dual boot Packard Bell Easynote TK with a small Win 7 partition for fallback when I need to work on clients Windoze OSs. The install was flawless, the updates all succeeded, all very nice. I didn't have as much luck with an old Fijitsu running 500MB RAM. That is back to XP till I get more RAM.
Cheers for this new release!
mannshands
Update: Checked the additional hardware depository and found a widget that displays the current connection strength as a percent. But at almost 80Mb and mods to 40 packages, I thought that a bit bloated and not really what I want. I want to be able to compare available networks.
Update 2 and 3: Still waiting for someone to gimme some help here! Am I asking in the wrong category?
SOLUTION. A helper on MajG support forums had the answer, LinSSID is a graphical and functional wifi scanner for Ubuntu Linux, which is similar to iwscanner and Inssider. It can be easily installed in Ubuntu and Linux Mint via PPA repository.

LL 1.0.8 login screen bug

There is a bug at Linux Lite 1.0.8 that I encountered when tried to login. It was keeping me at the login screen, something like a loop, even if the password was correct.
I found a solution for that: I changed the login manager from LightDM to GDM
- Go to a text terminal using Alt-Ctrl-F1.
- Stop LightDM with sudo stop lightdm.
- Start GDM with sudo start gdm.
- Run sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm to set the default display manager for GDM.
- Edit /etc/X11/default-display-manager and set it to /usr/sbin/gdm if you can't run the above.
- Restart your computer and login.
Maybe a bit late because of the version 2.0 being released by now but it's worth noticing.
